Buckeye Healthy Schools Alliance (BHSA) partners with AHA, OSOPHE, & OAFHK to Promote the Adoption of Health Education Standards in Ohio
On November 16, 2011, over fifty participants from all over the state gathered at the Riffe Center in Columbus for Set the Standards: Health Education in Ohio.
After being briefed on the issue, participants had a chance to meet in groups with others from their district. Then our teams of volunteers went to visit 31 legislative offices and to deliver written materials on the need for health education standards in Ohio. In the afternoon, after legislative visits, participants re-convened to talk about “And Now What? How to Promote Health Education Standards Back Home”. Participants discussed strategies for reaching out to potential endorsers, using media advocacy, and grassroots advocacy to educate others and enlist support for our cause. The response from participants and legislators was very positive.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this important day. We look forward to seeing you again at future events!
